Decimal Loop Challenge – Reason, Connect and Solve

Our Year 5 learners engaged in a fun and collaborative mathematical challenge using Decimal Loop Cards!
Working together, they had to identify and justify equivalent fractions and decimals, carefully analysing each card and using their mathematical reasoning to make the correct connections. Their challenge was to arrange the cards in sequence to create a complete mathematical loop.
The activity encouraged learners to explain their thinking, listen to different strategies, check one another’s reasoning, and confidently justify their answers.
Through this hands-on task, learners strengthened their understanding of the relationship between fractions and decimals while developing essential skills in reasoning, communication, problem-solving, and collaboration.
