Exploring the Sense of Touch – Theme: Self and Others

As part of our Theme Self and Others, our Foundation Stage 1 learners explored the sense of touch through engaging, hands-on activities. The objective was to understand that skin is the largest organ of our body and helps us feel from head to toe.

👣 At our “Feel the Walk” station, children walked barefoot on different surfaces, noticing how each one felt.

🌡️ At the temperature station, they discovered hot and cold sensations safely through touch.

🎨 At the texture stations, learners explored hard/soft objects from daily life— Kitchen tools, classroom supplies, art and craft items, toys, and clothes.

🎲 In sorting games, children grouped objects according to different textures.

🖐️ In the fun “Guess Who” game, learners identified familiar objects using only their sense of touch!

These experiences supported communication, language development, and understanding of the world. Learners built vocabulary, practiced reasoning, and discovered that skin is present all over—we feel everywhere!

💡 The joy and excitement on their faces showed how play-based exploration makes learning meaningful.
