Year Group 6 and 7 learners explored dot painting techniques inspired by Aboriginal art traditions of Australia. They applied these techniques to diverse surfaces, including rainsticks and circular recycled paper, examining how patterns respond to different forms and textures.
Through experimentation with colour, rhythm and repetition, learners created layered dot compositions. Designing on three-dimensional rainsticks encouraged them to consider how patterns wrap and flow around a form, while circular formats invited thoughtful attention to balance and composition.
The project created meaningful links between Visual and Performing Arts by connecting surface design with rhythm, movement and sound. Working with recycled materials further highlighted the creative potential of reimagining everyday objects as purposeful artistic surfaces.
