Wordplay Excitement: Year Group 4 Explore French Vocabulary in ‘L’objet mystérieux – Guess the Word

The saying in French, "La Connaissance des langues est la porte de la sagesse," which means knowledge of languages is the gateway to wisdom.

As a part of learning new French words and expanding their vocabulary of the language, the Year Group 4 students played a game called "L'objet mystérieux—guess the word with a picture."

In this game, one player has an image on a card; they've come up with themselves. They gave clues to one of the players, who must try to guess what that word is. There were many communication limits on the clues as per the rules of the game. The player had to guess the words and tell them in French.

It not only helped them practice their French vocabulary but also enhanced their communication skills in the language. The game encouraged teamwork and creativity as they tried to come up with clever clues and guesses. By engaging in such activities, the students were able to make learning a new language an enjoyable experience. They left the session feeling more confident and motivated to continue expanding their knowledge of French. The students thoroughly enjoyed the activity.
