Celebrating International Day Of Peace

Valistus International School

When we say peace, what is the first word that comes to your mind?

Peace is seen differently by everyone. To some peace might mean harmony and tranquillity. Many people may think peace is the feeling you get during times without war or conflict. But something people forget is that differences will always exist in diversity. Peace does not mean a world without conflict. Peace means solving obstacles through non-violence, by using communication, education and compassion for the betterment of our civilisation.

Let us take a look at the history of this day, The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly. In 2001, the United Nations General Assembly designated the International Day of Peace, aiming to reduce violence and strengthen peace ideals worldwide.

International Day of Peace is celebrated in 79 countries worldwide, with the UN urging a 24-hour ceasefire in war-torn areas. On this day the UN promotes peace and acceptance, with activities ranging from private events to public ceremonies, festivals, and concerts.

We at Valistus, did our part by raising awareness about this special day and presented an event with music and poetry recitation competition in French for the students.

Let us put aside all our differences and strive towards a better future by instilling the sentiments of non-violence and acceptance into the future leaders of our society.
